Protective effect of cerebral ischemic injury

Feng Quan et al. investigated the mechanism of the protective effect of silymarin on ischemic brain injury by creating a rat model of global cerebral ischemia with four-vessel blockade method. By observing the expression levels of nitric oxide and nitric oxide synthase in brain homogenate, it was shown that silymarin significantly reduced the content of NO and NOS in the cerebral tissue of ischemic rats and significantly reduced the infarct size. Therefore, it is concluded that silymarin can improve the antioxidant capacity of the body and has a significant protective effect on cerebral ischemia injury.
